Youth Circus FAQs

What does my child/teen need to wear?

Youth students should wear leotards, unitards, under armor style pants and shirts, leggings, or fitness bottoms.
NO loose clothing that exposes the midriff while upside-down, no shorts or exposed legs, no exposed midriffs, no exposed underwear or undergarments, no jewelry, no zippers, no sequins. If it shows skin when you do a cartwheel, handstand or go upside-down, don’t wear it to class. Class will be held bare foot.
*Older students should wear deodorant to class.

Can I watch my child during class/camp?

When parents are watching or standing in the classroom area, it becomes a distraction and distraction becomes a safety issue when students are upside-down and up high in the air. Exceptions to this rule include very young students who are afraid to enter class on their own for the first time, students who are taking a private lesson outside of busy group class times, or a student’s first day.

We now offer a live streaming of youth classes in the lobby! We also offer parent observation every third week of the month via Zoom! We will send an updated password to your email each month!

Can I sign my child up in the middle of the year?

Yes, you can sign up at any time, in the middle of the month or year. If you sign up in the middle of the month, tuition will be prorated automatically.

Can my child try out a class before committing?

Yes, you may call our front desk to try out your first youth class for only $5!

Do you have parent/child classes?

Yes, our Cirque Babies classes require a parent or guardian to participate with them during the class to ensure safety, spotting, and engagement in the class!  For parents and children outside of the baby age, we recommend scheduling a fun private lesson together by emailing info@arcircus.com!

What does my child need to bring?

Every student, no matter what age needs to bring a WATER BOTTLE.  We do also have water bottles available for $1. Older students 10+ should bring a bag with water bottle, notebook, pen, hair ties, deodorant, and any other supplies.

Does my child need shoes for class?

No, most classes are done barefoot. We have lockers and cubbies for their shoes. Your child may need jazz shoes for a performance if performing tumbling.

How should I do my child’s hair?

Long hair must be worn up in a bun, braids or up-do and be out of the face/not hanging in the way while upside-down.

How do I know what level/class my child should be in?

Please email info@arcircus.com or call 501-725-4975 if you have questions about class placement. All students progress at their own rate. We prefer that students with a strong background in dance, gymnastics, cheer, etc start in the beginner level/level 1 classes so they can learn the circus and aerial vocabulary and have a good foundation.

Is there an end-of-year recital?

Yes, we do a student show in May each year where each youth class and some of our adult classes perform various acts.

This is required for all youth students whether they are recreational students or part of our Elite or Pre-Professional programs. The only youth classes that do not participate are Cirque Babies and Bendy Flyers. If students join a group class in or after March, they may not be eligible to perform in Spring Recital but will still learn the choreography and be able to participate in a class! If students are newer, they may have a smaller part in the show but will still be able to participate.

A Recital fee is included to cover the cost of dress rehearsal, theatre rental, staffing and logistics.

A costume fee is included to cover the cost of your child’s costume, tights, or shoes (if needed).

The benefits of the performance and recital experience are numerous for kids and teens of all ages!

Do youth students get to perform?

Yes, we have performance opportunities for all levels and ages throughout the year including our Winter Show for our Elite, Pre-Professional, and Frequent Flyer students, Spring recital for all youth students, as well as community events such as parades that some students may be invited to depending on their level.

Do you have summer classes?

Yes, we have a lighter “after-school” class schedule as well as full summer camp and intensive schedules in June and July.

Pole Dance FAQs

What should I wear to a pole class?

Wear shorts, a crop top, sports bra or fitness top. The less clothing you have, the easier it will be to do the tricks and stick to the pole. Heels are optional for most classes and not used at all in Foundations. Floorwork classes recommend having knee pads, but they are not required. Overall, we want you to feel comfortable!

Do not wear lotions, oils, or anything greasy or slick on your hands or skin on the day of pole class.

This will make it impossible to grip the pole and other students will have trouble gripping as well.

Can I sign up in the middle of the month for a class series?

Yes, tuition will be prorated accordingly if you sign up after the beginning of the month, and you won’t be charged the full amount shown on our website. Each student will be at a slightly different level, so our instructors are well-adept at scaffolding classes to match everyone’s needs – so you won’t “fall behind” by joining in the middle of a month or series.

Is $80/$85 the price for one class?

NO, this is the price for 4 classes in one month aka a monthly class series. You pay this price monthly and attend class 1x/week. We prorate our tuition each month, so if there are more/less than 4 classes in a month – tuition will match the extra/lost class.

What if I can’t make it to my classes?

Please review our makeup policy here. If you are missing most of your classes in a month – talk with us to see if there is another class that better fits your schedule.

Do I need to bring heels?

Heels are optional in most classes. Check with your teacher to see what you will be working on in class.

What should I bring to class?

A water bottle, small towel, your phone (if you want to take videos of yourself towards the end of class), GRIP AID such as chalk, dry hands, iTac, or rosin- We do sell these at the front desk, as well!

How big are the classes?

Our pole studio currently can hold a maximum of 10 people for a normal class! Pole parties can vary depending on the amount of people and the amount of time that your party is scheduled for!

Do I need to have upper body strength to take a pole class?

No! Our foundations classes are designed for adults at any fitness level. Everyone progresses at their own rate and you will gain strength as you go!
